Christ Greenfield In Their Own Words

Rev. Dr. Tim Ahlman:

Hi I’m Tim, one of the pastors here, and you are in for a treat today. Before I introduce who’s sharing today, would you tell Jesus thank you for Lindsey, Dylan, those that are leading us in worship? Grateful, but Mike Jessup has been leading our youth ministry for the last year, maybe a few months, and the Lord is bringing a lot of young people to come hear about Jesus every Sunday night, and so we wanted Sunday evening to come to Sunday morning. So would you join me in welcoming Mike as he shares God’s Word today? Let’s go, bro.

Mr. Mike Jessup:

Yeah, this would might be less terrifying if it was full of teenagers. I’m weird like that. But when I first talked to Pastor Tim about preaching, in my head was, “Hey, I would love for our church to get to know more of what the youth get to experience on Sunday nights. This would be really good.” I want all of you to like me. And so then, what does he do? He goes, “Sweet, we have this series about where God is offending us.” It’s like, oh, that’s rough. And then initially, he’s like, “Do you want postmodernism or Christian nationalism?” It’s like, that’s a real tough choice, Pastor. And and we’ve worked through it. But as I was wrestling through all of that, like God kept reminding me, none of this is about me. It’s about him, and that’s what this series is about.

Mr. Mike Jessup:

Is mine on? Okay, sweet. Yeah, thank you, Jeff, Pastor Jeff, for the introduction. If you don’t know me, I’m Mike, the youth director here, and I first talked to Pastor Tim about preaching, and Tim is so collaborative. He’s like, “Let’s do it,” and I’m thinking, “This is going to be awesome. People are going to hear about youth ministry. Maybe I’ll get some volunteers. This could be a good thing.” And then the email comes through, and he’s like, “How about the sermon where God offends people, and it gets better. Then he goes, you know, you could do postmodernism or Christian nationalism. Like that’s a tough choice, Pastor. And then it turns out to be this this topic this week. And through that though, I was convicted that it’s not about me, it’s about God, and so we can enter into the hard, challenging words that God says because ultimately it’s about Him.
