Lord, we praise You for Your Servant
Pr Kurt Reinhardt here makes available a hymn he recently composed with the upcoming funeral of our beloved, now sainted Pr Warren Hamp in mind. Pr Reinhardt has sent me a pdf of the hymn, which was sung at yesterday’s service, with its accompanying tune (Merton), but my limited technical abilities preclude my making it available through this medium at this time. …Should any brethren be minded to make use of this hymn at funerals for faithful pastors, it would be courteous to inform Pr Reinhardt of this intent at prkreinhardt@gmail.com
Wellwishers of Lutheran Church—Canada are invited to watch yesterday’s glorious funeral for our beloved Woody, kindly made available by the Henry Waiser Funeral Home in Kitchener, ON: Recording #3aol7ceosj0g (Mar 07, 2026 12:11:02)
The photograph above, which includes LCC’s two Pastor Hamps (known by a wit at the seminary during their years of study as the Hampsters), features the Blessed Woody with his older brother David, taken when Woody accepted the Doulos Christou Award of CLTS a few years ago. The award was given for Woody’s unstinted service in general and not least for his great and much appreciated efforts in Theological Education and spiritual formation for LCC’s sister Church in Nicaragua, which greatly mourns his passing.
Lord We Praise You for Your Servant
Congregation:
1 Lord we praise You for Your servant
Whom You called to serve us here,
Filling up His mouth with Gospel
To deliver us from fear.
2 You revealed through him Your presence
As we gathered in Your name,
Gently shepherding us through him
When we wandered and were lame.
3 Showing us that You were with us
When our trials made hope grow dim;
Helping us to bear our burdens
Walking by our side in him.
4 Reaching out through him You washed us
In the font’s rebirthing flood;
Lovingly through him You fed us
With Your precious flesh and blood.
Pastors:
5 Christ we praise You for our brother
Who served with us in Your stead,
Who proclaimed Your sure salvation
In Your rising from the dead.
6 We give thanks that You were present
When he took his final breath,
Sending angels down to crown him
Who was faithful unto death
Congregation:
7 Lord we praise You for Your servant
Whom You’ve taken home to rest;
Comfort us now in our sorrow
That he shines among the Blessed.
