An ordained man's prayer in Passiontide as found in Kurt Reinhardt, My Life and My Salvation 2nd ed, p. 19

The Plea of a Servant

O Almighty God,

Who am I to raise my voice to Your heavenly throne?

I am like a worm - a man of dust

In sin my mother conceived me

And in sin have I lived.

Although my voice be abhorrent to You,

Yet I make bold to call on Your name.

By invoking the innocent blood of Cavalry,

I dare to call You Father.

By calling to remembrance

The bitter sufferings and death

Of Your beloved Son,

Jesus

I dare to pray.

May His voice take up my plea

And bring my petitions before Your throne.

May His sweet music drown out

The unrighteous clamour of my sinful mouth.

May the precious tongue

That cried out for my forgiveness

From the cross

Make my prayer pleasing in Your sight.

I pray not for my own sinful flesh

But for the sake of Your precious children,

Born of Water and the Spirit,

Committed to my care.

For their sake that I may serve them

Grant me, I pray, these blessed gifts

Of Christ’s most Holy Passion.

Give me the wounded brow of Your Son

That my head may be bowed in humble service to Your people.

Give me the wounded back of Your Son

That I may willingly bear the burdens of the fallen.

Give me the wounded hands of Your Son

That I may reach out in love and healing to Your children.

Give me the wounded feet of Your Son

That I may never cease to seek out the lost and the erring.

O Lord, most holy, pierce my heart through

That the heart of Christ may come to life within me.

O most merciful heavenly Father,

Fill me with Your love

And strengthen me in Your truth

That I may love in truth

And speak truth in love. Amen.
