Jesus' Resurrection by David P. Scaer

David Scaer has gifted the church with an unexpected gift: a book length treatise on the resurrection of Jesus Christ cleverly entitled Jesus’ Resurrection (St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 2026). I say unexpected because I didn’t realize that we needed it. At 160 pages, in Scaer’s clear style, the book is both scholarly and accessible. In fairness, some lay readers, and me, myself, also, might be tempted to skip the first sections (pages 1-41) wherein he lays out the untenable positions of the critics, but even there he does so with simplicity that is impressive given the convoluted and impious opinions he is engaging. The value here is that one can let Scaer do the heavy lifting and become aware of the issues without needing to read all the drivel. Most readers, I suspect, and myself included, with find the remaining 120 pages to be the real gold. Here opens the Scriptures and carefully, concisely, and piously lays out the necessary implications and significance of the resurrection for both theology and life. Again, he is straight forward and clear, without laborious language or lots of citations and obscure jargon. The scholarship is evident and I don’t doubt this book will be useful to scholars, but it is also and immediately useful for parish pastors and laity as well.

You can order it from anywhere that sells books, including Amazon, but here is the link to the CPH page - https://www.cph.org/jesus-resurrection-new-testament-testimonies
