Two New Advent Calendars!
A Jesse tree with the O Antiphons from “Tomorrow, I Come: Art and Meditations for the Final Days of Advent”
This year has seen the appearance of at least two new Advent calendars in Lutheran circles, both of which are well worth your time.
The first will make a welcome addition to the Advent routine of any language enthusiast. The Rev. Kyle and Dcs. Brittni Brown have put together an Advent calendar of translations of Old Testament prophecies, available in both Greek and Latin editions. Both editions include an appendix of translation helps and a glossary to help along language learners at any level. These would make for a wonderful early Christmas gift appropriate for pastors looking to brush up or practice their languages, seminary students (with a discount available for seminary students), language lovers, homeschoolers, Latin or Greek students who want seasonal practice, or Classics lovers. Ordering sooner rather than later would be a good idea, as Advent is almost upon us and supplies are rather limited. You can find the Greek version here, and the Latin version here.
Another Advent calendar, “Tomorrow, I Come: Art and Meditations for the Final Days of Advent” can be found at All the Household, though this one is intended for the last days of Advent in which the O Antiphons are sung (December 17–23 in current usage). It comprises new artwork depicting the antiphons from Kelly Schumacher of Agnus Dei Liturgical Arts, a collection of meditations by the Rev. Dr. Christian Einertson and the Rev. Josef Muench, and an introduction from Dr. Kristen Einertson and Tessa Muench, who envisioned and developed the project. While you’re at All the Household, don’t forget to order your full year liturgical calendar for Advent 2025–Trinitytide 2026, available in both historic and three-year lectionary versions.
