From Latin Mass to Semper Virgo (and everything in between)
I had the opportunity to sit down with the Rev. Bryan Stecker, host of the podcast On the Line (OTL) back in July, and the episode dropped earlier this week. OTL features a wide range of guests, both Lutheran and from many other traditions, with recent episodes covering C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, Mormonism, infant Baptism, artificial intelligence, and much, much more. Many of the guests will be familiar names to readers of this blog, and many will be less familiar, but all will be thoroughly interesting.
In our discussion, we covered a range of territory, including Lutheran identity, the Lutheran Missal Project, the Latin mass and office in the Lutheran Church, the translation and bowdlerization of Lutheran hymnody, the saints, the perpetual virginity and assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and any number of other points in between. Take a look on YouTube, or listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, or your platform of choice.
A brief note: some have inquired about my remarks concerning the motivations of those who deny the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 1:19:45ff. These are not imaginative imputations of intention, but are sentiments that I have heard directly from the mouths of several highly regarded LCMS pastors.
