A Warning About the Occult

By Amy Schneider

This is your semi-annual reminder to keep your kids armed against the occult. Ten out of twelve students in the youth group I helped lead had been seriously exposed to the occult (crystal magick, psychics, tarot, informal spells, channeling, etc.) almost always through a family member. Yes, this was an LCMS group. It was about 15 years ago - but, the occult has only grown in popularity since then.

The most attractive part of neo-paganism, that most Christians get wrong, is that magick is at least somewhat efficacious; which is to say that it works. This is what suckers most uncatechized Christians into it. "You've been lied to," they'll say. Well, I won't lie to you. If it didn't work, at least some of the time, there would be no reason to continue practicing magick/neo-paganism.

Don't let pragmatism be the death knell of your faith. Don't dabble with the demonic. Don't attend your Wiccan friends' Samhain celebration, even as an observer, because the demons see that curiosity and exploit it with expert precision and in the subtlest of ways.

Steer clear of all occult activities and celebrate the blessed (and fun) feast of All Hallows eve.
