Luke 2 and The Elector's Bible

Merry Christmas! We have seen quite a bit of talk from Dr. Mayes and Dr. Koontz on the applications of Holy Scripture. Here is how the Elector, or Ernestine Bible of 1641 teaches us to apply Luke 2.

I.  Doctrine: “That Christ was born to do good, not to angels, but to us men, indeed for all,” v. 10,11.

II. Comfort: “The name Jesus means so much as a Savior or Helper, because He has helped us through His holy merit from the might of the devil and hell, and eternal salvation has been given to believers,” v. 21.

III. Teaching: “That the death of the God-fearing person is a departure in peace, there through they come into eternal life with Simeon,” v. 29.

IV. Admonition: “Because Christ, Himself the Son of God, was subservient and obedient to His mother and his foster father, how much more shall all other human children be subservient and obedient to their parents,” v. 51.

Merry Christmas!
