2005 Sabre of Boldness Ceremony

The tenth annual Sabre of Boldness presentation was held Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the Marriott Hotel, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Chaplain Jonathan E. Shaw gave the introductory remarks. Rev. Dr. Burnell F. Eckardt, Jr. , made the award presentation after a brief address.

The 2005 Sabre of Boldness was presented to

The Rev. Edward J. Balfour

for his confessional fight on
The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod's
Board of Directors.

His son, Reverend Father Brett I. Balfour, received the Sabre award for his father, who was too ill to attend. The inscription on the Sabre of Boldness plaque reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity on behalf of the Holy Church of Christ, while engaged in the confession of His Pure Gospel in the face of hostile forces, and at the greatest personal risk."
